I fell in love with the Brussels Griffon years ago when I groomed two for a client. Their adorable pugged faces and clown like personalities sold me immediately on this breed. The Griffon, as they are usually called, are a relatively rare breed, and somewhat difficult to find. They originated in Belgium and were originally used as ratters in stables, houses and Cabs. They were bred with the English Toy Spaniel, the Pug and possibly the Yorkshire Terrier, giving them the look they have today. They are related to the Shih Tzu through the Pug. Their are two sizes, the regular, 7-12 pounds, and the small, 4-7 pounds. They should not exceed 12 inches in height. Their coats come in two types; the smooth coat, which is much like that of a Pug, and the rough coat which is wiry and dense, much like a schnauzer coat. They can be hand stripped or groomed as the owner prefers. Many folks like to have them groomed like a schnauzer. The coat color can be belge (blond), red, black, or black and tan. Ears and tail should be cropped and dew claws removed. These boisterous fun loving little clowns are fast becoming a family pleaser. They are never angry, but become unhappy if they do not live with humans. This makes them the ideal house pet. With their adorable human-like faces and clown personality, you are sure to fall in love. Contact me when you have picked the perfect one.
Karen, Thank you so so much for getting us such a precious baby. We took her to the vet and she is totally healthy! I'm glad she made the flight safe!...We will be contacting you for our next Griffon. Thanks again!! AYA in CA.
There is NO difference in personality between male and female puppies. Males will NOT hike or mark territory if they are neutered prior to 6 months. (Debunk the myth!!!!! Buy a boy!!!)
