Adult Dogs up for Adoption
Adult Dogs from
Puppy Love Farms
are special. They are
usually partially
house trained, and
are well socialized.
They like people and
other dogs. They
cannot be bred for
one reason or
another; therefore, it
would be my desire
that they find forever
homes with people
that will love them.
Be sure to read the
information below
about our special
adult dogs and the
different types of
adjustment they will
need in your home.
About Your New Adult Dog
There are many advantages to adopting an adult dog. Vaccinations and worming have been
completed. The teething process and hyperactivity of puppyhood are finished. No worries about
the many puppy diseases, either. He will also be accustomed to grooming and car rides.
Housetraining will be partially completed also.
An adult dog comes with all these advantages. However, he will not be perfect. No animal or
person is. There will still be much work on your part to make him feel welcome and a part of the
family.
Adult adoptees usually have a strong bond with their home here at the farm. They may go
through a period of sadness and confusion. Spend as much time as possible with him, and
NEVER let him outside unsupervised. They may be frightened and try to get out of the fence, or
be frightened to be left alone, since they have never been alone before. Also, the rules may well
be different at your house than here on the Farm. Kindness and patience will smooth the way for
him to make a comfortable adjustment into your family. He will be loving and eager to please and
will need your help to learn the ropes at your house.
It is never recommended to give a new animal the run of his new home in the beginning. Dogs
should never have the run of the house when you are away from home, for their own safety, and
to keep them out of trouble. Most adoptees from Puppy Love Farms are pretty well potty
trained, but their is always some needed work in this area when an adult dog goes to new
surroundings. He is not familiar with your home, and is totally unsure of what to do, or where to
go when he has to.
I recommend purchasing an animal attractant from the pet store. Either spray it outside in the
spot you want him to use for his potty, or spray it on newspapers in the house. I always
recommend crate training or paper training if you plan to be away from home for long on a
regular basis. A tall baby gate across the door to a room with no carpet works well, also for his
house. Just put down food and water, his bed and newspapers. A radio for noise is a great idea as
they are used to being around someone all the time.  They will also need toys-this will keep them
from chewing on other things due to nervousness. Cow hooves are the best for the teeth, and dogs
love them. They are available at your local pet store. Remember, dogs will not soil where they
live unless they cannot help it.
Let them out every 2 to 4 hours. When you do, take him IMMEDIATELY outside, pick him up
and carry him. Once he has made an effort to relieve himself, give him praise and a treat. (It may
take a few minutes in the beginning. The book "Potty Training is Possible" is an inexpensive book
used in the training classes at PetsMart and can be purchased there if you need additional help.
Some adult dogs, both male and female, will mark territory. This is just a bad habit and can be
stopped. Either, get spray bottle and fill it with water, OR purchase a choke chain that will fit
his neck, no larger. Then, if he starts to mark territory spray the water on him and firmly say
"NO", OR throw the choke chain UNDER him and firmly say "NO".
To begin leash training, buy a harness (no collars, bad for the throat) that fits well, and leave it
on for about a week. Then, add a leash, and let them drag it around a few hours a day when you
are home. I also recommend the obedience classes at PetsMart. They are usually excellent and
will give you and your new dog a chance to bond, and your dog will gain a lot of self esteem.
Remember that it will take a while for your new adult dog to feel comfortable with his new family
and you with him. (A month for the bonding process is not unheard of). Patience and love with
proper correction are the key to this process being successful. GOOD LUCK!!! With a little hard
work thrown in, the two of you are sure to be fast friends very soon.

We hope you find your perfect grown up friend.

Thank You,
Gucci Chanelle, Chinese Imperial Mascot.
Notice!!!! All adult dogs should be spayed or
neutered. This makes it easier to maintain
housetraining and prevents unwanted puppies
as well as preventing other diseases.
We currently have a few adult dogs for adoption, 3 Poms,
1 merle, 1 red sable and 1 solid chocolate. We have
several Shih Tzu male and female, and several
Chihuahua, male. It is understood these dogs are doggie
door trained, and should be indoor dogs only. New
owners must sign a contract for spay/neuter and dental
work. Also, these dogs may not be given or sold to
another household, but must be returned to Puppy Love
if they do not work out in your home. $150.00 each.
